Wiltshire is the county for white horses. Most of the white horses are chalk hill carvings, and the chalk downs of central Wiltshire make it an ideal place for such figures. Avebury Stone Circle
The best way to explore Avebury and its various sites is on foot. Begin your visit at the Alexander Keiller Museum to find out about the six sites within the care of English Heritage and their significance, including Avebury Stone Circle, West Kennet Avenue, The Sanctuary, Windmill Hill and Silbury Hill.
At Avebury you are free to wander among the stones and bear witness to the enormous task of building the henge bank and ditch by hand. You can also stroll down West Kennet Avenue which is thought to link Avebury stone circles to the Sanctuary on Overton Down. The stone circles and henge monument are particularly unusual, not just because it is the largest stone circle in the world but also for the fact that it is the only stone circle with a village built within it. Toilets and a cafe are available near the museum in Avebury.
The village is owned almost in its entirety by the National Trust and attracts many visitors each year. Lacock is a firm favourite for film and TV producers, most notably for its picturesque streets and historic cottages. The village’s most famous appearances include 'Downton Abbey', the BBC’s 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Cranford', and the films 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' and 'Wolfman'. For more information on visiting Lacock, visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk.

There are also a host of events throughout the year at the circuit including race days for both cars and motorbikes. You’ll also find a couple of pubs and a luxury hotel with a golf course within the village.
